Course Details

  • Categories: Drug / Fit Tests, Occupational Training,
  • Types: Computer Based,

National Safety Council offers Fit Tests for your employees.  We have arrangements with a local clinic to perform the fit tests.  We will arrange for the tests and bill you along with your training.  There are two types of fit tests: qualitative and quantitative.

Qualitative fit testing is a pass/fail test method that uses the employee’s sense of taste or smell, or reaction to an irritant in order to detect leakage into the respirator face piece. Qualitative fit testing does not measure the actual amount of leakage. Whether the respirator passes or fails the test is based simply on detecting leakage of the test substance into the face piece.  Most Half-masks utilize Qualitative fit testing.

Quantitative fit testing uses a machine to measure the actual amount of leakage into the face piece and does not rely upon a sense of taste, smell, or irritation in order to detect leakage. The respirators used during this type of fit testing will have a probe attached to the face piece that will be connected to the machine by a hose. Quantitative fit testing can be used for any type of tight-fitting respirator- either Half-Mask or Full-Mask.

Pulmonary Function Test (required for any mask) measures lung capacity, and includes the required OSHA Respiratory Questionnaire.  Price $51.25

Qualitative Respirator Fit Test- Price $27.00

Quantitative Respirator Fit Test- Price $37.50

Each individual tested will receive a wallet card indicating the tests.  The card is valid for one year.
